GRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAMS

The College of Commerce and Business Administration offers a degree program leading to the Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.). Joint professional degrees are offered with architecture, law, medicine, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, general engineering, civil engineering, environmental engineering, indu strial engineering, computer science, journalism, and education (human resource development). Students may earn a B.A. in Liberal Arts or a B.S. in Agriculture and a M.B.A., as well as design their own custom-designed joint degree program with other graduate programs.

ADMISSION

Admission to the Illinois M.B.A. is dependent upon an undergraduate degree with a scholastic average of at least B for the last 60 hours, acceptable scores on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT), three letters of recommendation, and essays. The average GMAT score for the fall 1999 M.B.A. class was 619; the median grade point average was 3.35 (A = 4.0).

Applicants whose native language is not English are also required to submit scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Applicants should achieve a minimum score of 550 on the paper-based test (213 on the computer-based test).

The M.B.A. program begins in the fall semester only. Admissions decisions are made on a rol ling basis beginning in January. International applications should be received by February 1; domestic appli
cations should be received by April 1. To be considered as a "priority applicant," applications must be received by December 15.

MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

The Illinois M.B.A. curriculum consists of 18 units and features an integrated core of 11 units (eight units of foundation/functional courses and three units of business environment courses). Students select a professional track as their concentration from the following options: accountancy, finance, marketing, management of information systems, or student designed. The Illinois M.B.A. emphasizes co-curricular activities designed to complement classroom experiences while further developing leadership skills. Activities include communications, teamwork, and self-awareness workshops, technical training in current computer software, and career services with a focus on internships and permanent placements .

M.B.A. students (aside from those participating in approved joint degree programs) must enroll on a full-time basis during the fall and spring semesters of both the first and second years of the M.B.A. program. During the summer, students are expected to participate in internships.

JOINT DEGREE PROGRAMS

All joint degree programs require the completion of 15 units of M.B.A. coursework, as well as the requirements of the other program. (Students in the M.Arch./M.B.A. program need only complete 11 units of M.B.A. coursework.) Students in joint degree programs must be registered as full-time M.B.A. students for a minimum of three semesters.

JURIS DOCTOR AND MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

MASTER OF ARCHITECTURE AND MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

DOCTOR OF MEDICINE AND MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

Several programs have been created in response to a growing demand for electrical, industrial, mechanical, civil and environmental, and general engineers who are also professional managers: the Master of Science in Electrical Engineering/Master of Business Administration program, the Master of Science in Industrial Engineering/Master of Business Administration program, the Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering/Master of Business Administration program, the Master of Science in General Engineering/Master of Business Administration program, and the Master of Science in Civil Engineering/Master of Business Administration program, and Environmental Engineering/Master of Business Administration program. MASTER OF EDUCATION AND MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

This program was created in response to the growing demand for specialists in human re source education who also have an understanding of the management of projects, people, and resources. MASTER OF SCIENCE IN JOURNALISM AND MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

The joint Master of Science in Journalism/M.B.A. program permits students with an interest in business administration and print or broadcast journalism and management to earn both degrees. BACHELOR OF ARTS IN LIBERAL ARTS / MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION and BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN AGRICULTURE/MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

These programs allow students to earn two degrees in five years rather than the usual six. The programs integrate an undergraduate education with a professional education without diluting the quality or purpose of either. Through careful course selection and program planning, students complete the first year of the M.B.A. program during their senior year. This coursework counts toward both degrees. Students complete remaining M.B.A. program requirements during their fifth year. Custom-designed joint degree Program

The custom-designed joint degree program allows students with an interest in earning a M.B.A. degree together with another graduate degree for which no formally defined joint degree agreement exists to complete requirements for both degrees. The authorization for this program has expired. Although it is expected to be renewed, no students may enroll at this time. FINANCIAL AID

The Illinois M.B.A. offers Student Management Leadership Grants to provide financial aid to outstanding M.B.A. students. Student Management Leadership Grants are awarded during the admissions process and do not require an application. U.S. citizens and permanent residents may be eligible for student loans.
