The College of Commerce and Business Administration offers a degree
program leading to the Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.).
Joint professional degrees are offered with architecture, law, medicine,
electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, general engineering,
civil engineering, environmental engineering, industrial engineering,
computer science, journalism, and education (human resource development).
Students may earn a B.A. in Liberal Arts or a B.S. in Agriculture
and a M.B.A., as well as design their own custom-designed joint degree
            program with other graduate programs.
            Admission
Admission to the Illinois M.B.A. is dependent upon an undergraduate
degree with a scholastic average of at least B for the last 60 hours,
acceptable scores on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT),
three letters of recommendation, and essays. The average GMAT score
for the fall 1999 M.B.A. class was 619; the median grade point average
            was 3.35 (A = 4.0).
Applicants whose native language is not English are also required
to submit scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
Applicants should achieve a minimum score of 550 on the paper-based
test (213 on the computer-based test).

The M.B.A. program begins in the fall semester only. Admissions decisions
are made on a rolling basis beginning in January. International applications
should be received by February 1; domestic applications should be
received by April 1. To be considered as a “priority applicant,”
applications must be received by December 15.
            Master of Business Administration
The Illinois M.B.A. curriculum consists of 72 graduate hours and features
an integrated core of 44 graduate hours (32 graduate hours of foundation/functional
courses and 12 graduate hours of business environment courses). Students
select a professional track as their concentration from the following
options: accountancy, finance, marketing, management of information
systems, or student designed. The Illinois M.B.A. emphasizes co-curricular
activities designed to complement classroom experiences while further
developing leadership skills. Activities include communications, teamwork,
and self-awareness workshops, technical training in current computer
software, and career services with a focus on internships and permanent
            placements.

M.B.A. students (aside from those participating in approved joint
degree programs) must enroll on a full-time basis during the fall
and spring semesters of both the first and second years of the M.B.A.
program. During the summer, students are expected to participate in
            internships.

A two-year Executive M.B.A. program is offered to experienced managers.
Details may be obtained from the Executive M.B.A. Program, 218 Wohlers
Hall, 1206 South Sixth Street, Champaign, IL 61820.

coursework, as well as the requirements of the other program. (Students
in the M.Arch./M.B.A. program need only complete 44 graduate hours

Master of Computer Science and Master of Business Administration
This program allows students to earn both degrees in three years instead
of the usual four. The program serves the application-minded computer
scientist who seeks management skills. For more information, write

This program was created in response to the growing demand for specialists
in human resource education who also have an understanding of the
management of projects, people, and resources. For more information,

Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts/Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Science in Agriculture/Master of Business Administration
These programs allow students to earn two degrees in five years rather
than the usual six. The programs integrate an undergraduate education
with a professional education without diluting the quality or purpose
of either. Through careful course selection and program planning,
students complete the first year of the M.B.A. program during their
senior year. This coursework counts toward both degrees. Students
complete remaining M.B.A. program requirements during their fifth
year. For more information on the B.A. in Liberal Arts/M.B.A. program,

which no formally defined joint degree agreement exists to complete
requirements for both degrees. The authorization for this program
has expired. Although it is expected to be renewed, no students may
enroll at this time. For more information, contact the M.B.A. Program
Office, 410 David Kinley Hall, 1407 West Gregory Drive, Urbana, IL
