Liberal Arts and Sciences: CURRICULUM PREPARATORY TO THE TEACHING OF SPANISH

For the Degree of Bachelor of Arts in the Teaching of Spanish

A minimum of 123 hours of credit is required for graduation. Students are advised that additional course work may be necessary to teach middle grades six through eight after June 30, 1996, and foriegn languages in grades nine through twelve after June 30, 1997. Consult the certification officer in 110 Education Building for additional information. See Curricula Preparatory to Teaching Foreign Languages for requirements to be fulfilled by those planning to teach Latin in both elementary and secondary schools.

Departmental Distinction. To be eligible for departmental distinction, a student must have a minimum grade-point average of 4.0, display exceptional teaching ability, and complete an approved project or series of projects. Consult the Spanish teacher training adviser for details.

Foreign Study. It is strongly recommended that future teachers of Spanish engage in one or more semesters of study in a Spanish-speaking country. A number of the curricular requirements listed above may be met through the Year Abroad Program or other approved programs; see the Study Abroad Programs.

See the description of the general education requirements. The humanities requirement and the college foreign language requirement are fulfilled by the requirements of the major.
